Can't start site in IIS --"This Web site cannot be started. Another may be using same port"

We have an Intranet site along with a Document Center (both on port 80).  We just created an internet site (using port 443) for outsiders to use.  The problem is that when we try to start the site in IIS 7 we are getting  "This Website cannot be started.  Another Website may be using the same port."  In the bindings there are no other sites using 443.

Does anyone have any advice?  Thanks

From your description, “We have an Intranet site along with a Document Center (both on port 80)”. Please check if there are two sites use the same port 80 or 443. If so, please change one of them to another port, next check the effect.

When hosting web sites in IIS you can have multiple site on the same port such as port 80.  However, to host two sites on port 80 each site has to have either a unique IP Address or a unique host header.  To setup a host header you would need to make a DNS Entry for the domain "host header" then specify the host header in the bindings for the site.

Have you opened a browser and attached to each IP on port 443? Do you have any other web services beside IIS 7 running?

Just from usage patterns, is the site using 443 also trying to use port 80? You definitely have a conflict somewhere.John

it works but only after playing around with the bindings.  So i'm still unsure how it works but i'll take the good result.   Thank you everyone for your replies.  Definitely gained some knowledge in this thread.
