SharePoint List opens in edit view; I want to change default to not be in edit view

When I open an existing list, I have to "stop editing this list" before selecting an item.  I want to change the default so the initial view is not in edit view.

Also, as a side note, is there a way to have list attachments open from the main list view rather than going into form view to view attachment?

Hi Kerry- what is your default view? You should be able go into the list settings, then select a view and make it the default. As far as showing attachments in the list, see the following link:
