Hello

I have installed Office 2013. I am receiving the following error when I click on a document in a SharePoint library and click "Edit in Microsoft Word";

The document could not be opened for editing. A Microsoft SharePoint Foundation compatible application could not be found to edit the document.

I have tried the following:

  • Checking the "SharePoint OpenDocuments Class" add-on is enabled.
  • Manually re-registering OWSSUPP.DLL
  • Repairing Microsoft Office
  • Create additional key in registry HKCR\Installer\Components\55EAFA0B8A4403B428FDE038B252C621\x86\2057""

I am running the following on my client:

  • Windows 10 (x64)
  • Office 365 Pro Plus

If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate this.

Regards

Abhishek

Hi ABhishekAg,

What error did you met when registering OWSSUPP.DLL?

The OWSSUPP.DLL links to your SharePoint OpenDocument Class internet Explorer Add-On and is the integrated Add-On for opening documents from SharePoint.

Please rename the problematic OWSSUPP.DLL, then make sure you enable “Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Support” for your office (Control Panel->Office->Change->Add or Remove Featurs)and then repair Office so that the OWSSUPP.DLL gets registered.

Thanks,

Wendy

Hi Abhishek,

From a KB article:

You try to use Office 2013 to open multiple documents from a document library in Microsoft SharePoint 2010.

In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
The document could not be opened for editing. A Microsoft SharePoint Foundation compatible application could not be found to edit the document.

To resolve this issue, please install the Office 2013 hotfix package (Owssupp-x-none.msp): June 11, 2013.

Hi Abhishek,

Did you install Office 2013 and Office 365 Pro plus on a same machine?

Please test on other machines which only install Office 2013, compare the result.

Thanks,

Wendy

Hi Abhishek,

Are you using other Office products in the same machine?

In general, this issueoccurs on computers on which you have installed more than one version of Office.

Hi Wendy,

I didn't install any office version before Office 365 installation. I am still facing the same issue. But One thing I noticed while registering owssupp.dll, it gives a error.
