Organization Chart is incorrect

Question

Wednesday, July 11, 2012 4:50 PM

Hi,

I have the weirdest problem

This is the actual hierarchy:

Everybody has the correct Manager in their AD field. However, Sarah does not show up under Michael in the organization browser.

Sarah and the employees under her (peter, andrew and rose) are a separate branch- they connect to nowhere.

I checked a million times and tried updating Sarah's manager info in AD- again and again and still have no idea what might be going wrong.

Anyone has a clue?

Just got through troubleshooting a similar issue with someone.  It can be something simple or more of a pain to resolve.

  • Working backwards from the profile page, as Guru mentioned, first check the User Profile data to see what is in the actual Manager field - this is used to build the Org Chart and is the data that should be imported into SharePoint.
  • If you're not seeing what you expect, double-check AD to see if the data is there (sounds like you've already done this).
  • Check to make sure the import is working.
  • This one is more obscure, but is what I ran into:  If there is a person in the manager field, hover over the name to see the account name for that user.  Is the domain name the same as the account name for the profile you're looking at?  If they don't match, take a look at this post - which covers a lot more technical troubleshooting options on both the AD and SharePoint services sides.

I'm sure there are more possibilities, but start with these.

For some reason the profile import did not worked for this lady and I had to update the manager field manually in SharePoint Central admin.. weird.
