Unable to open Excel file in SP 2010 using Edge

Question

Wednesday, November 4, 2015 9:50 AM

Hi all,

I'm using Edge to browse internet. I have a SharePoint 2010 document library where there are Excel files I want to edit.

When I select "Edit in Microsoft Excel" I get the following error:

Using Internet Explorer, everything is working fine as expected.

I do not exactly know which version of SharePoint 2010 is used (because the server is on a company network where I am a simple user).

I'm using Microsoft Office 2013 64-bit installed as subscriber of Office365 Home.

Is there something I can do on client side to make Microsoft Edge behave as Internet Explorer (i.e. open the file in Excel as required)?

Thank you.

Plo

They are as good as you're going to get. It would be better if Edge was fully compatible with the current SharePoint platform, and it'd be nice if it were backward compatible with a supported but legacy software product.

On the down side it isn't compatible, since it's not listed in the compatible software list that's not a bug.

What you can do to make your life easier is to use the 'open in IE' option in Edge. You'd need to authenticate again but that's not a major barrier.

Hi Plo- the answer is, simply, only use IE with SharePoint. Edge is not fully compatible and can't be run in compatibility mode.

Hi Plo,

Edge Browser is yet to be improved for SharePoint as per the information available. and this issue seems to be well-known in Edge. have a look at below articles where u can get more details.

That's ridiculous.

I'll have to maintain favorites in two different places and will be impossible to open a SharePoint link simply clicking on it but I'll have to copy link and paste it into IE address bar.

That's not a solution. Is a surrender.
