Hi,

For the first error, based on my research, this is a known issue. There is limited issues and it only associated to files with Microsoft office 2007 version. Most of issues will be resolved for files with Microsoft office 2010 version.

There are also several blogs mentioned this issue, such as below:

https://www.nothingbutsharepoint.com/sites/devwiki/articles/Pages/Managed-Metadata-Columns-in-Office-2007.aspx

http://sharepointconnoisseur.blogspot.com/2011/09/utilize-managed-metadata-service_20.html

For the second error, I have tested and found it was OK on my side. Have you run SharePoint configuration wizard  after installing SharePoint 2010 SP1? You need to run “psconfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force” after you install SP1. Also, I suggest trying this:

1.       Go to SharePoint Central Administration Site –> Application Management –> [Service Applications] –> Manage service applications

2.       Highlight the Managed Metadata Service that your web application is associated with. (Do not click on the link, just click somewhere else on that row to highlight it)

3.       Click on Permissions button in the ribbon area.

4.       Add the application pool account used by your web application and give it at least ‘Read Access to Term Store

5.       click OK

Now you should be able to use term stored provided by the associated Managed Metadata Service Application.

Sally,

You'll never know how frustrating it has been form trying to figure out why a workflow would hang if the list contained a meta data field.

Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction, re: CA and adding permissions. I added users to the permission list, it did not appear to allow app pools (SharePoint 2010).

I've been literally working for days on this issue; searching the internet for someone else who had the same problem. Your post was IT!

Regards,

Bill
