Hi,

I have question for you. Do you have any experience with SharePoint? Gathering requirements without sufficient SharePoint knowledge can make things a lot more difficult.

I wrote down a couple of things to help you on your way.

Internet

I am not that experiences with SharePoint Internet sites but you need to set up an architecture plan. How many servers you need, what kind of services at what server. This is impossible to answer for us because we have no idea what the Internet site is going to be like.

**Search
**

- What kind of content needs to be found? Microsoft Office, PDF any other?

  • Are there requirements for specific search scopes? Such as Documents, Projects?
  • Are there requirements for people search?
  • Are there requirements for indexing external locations such as file shares?
  • How fast does new content need to be found by the users?

Again, you need to know how you are going to facilitate your search services (servers, server roles, virtualisation ect.)

**Forms
**This is a difficult one because you need InfoPath and OOTB SharePoint knowledge to determine how the form can be implemented in SharePoint.

Workflows

Again not an easy one because you need to have OOTB SharePoint and SharePoint Designer knowledge to determine how to implement the workflows.

LOB
What are the LOB systems, are you able to retrieve information from these systems into SharePoint? How do you want to present the information in SharePoint?

I would strongly advice an experience SharePoint Consultant (with infrastructure and enough OOTB SharePoint knowledge) to assist you.

Microsoft has provided SharePoint planning worksheets for implementing various functionalities in SharePoint:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262735.aspx

You can start with these worksheets and formulate your questions to business users accordingly.

Hi,

I can provide a  sample for requirement analysis questionnaire. Please refer the url

You can customize this with your own questions according to the actual scenarios offered by the client.

I am a SharePoint It Pro having hands-on exp in OOB features,  InfoPath, Designer Workflows and more but no coding. But this is the first time i'll be doing requirement gathering for SP2010 portal. So i was searching if there are some standard set of questions to be asked.

if the end user is not familiar with SharePoint, trainning, and a test site for them to pilot is very important before requirement gathering.
