there was an error opening this document. The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect

When I try to open a pdf in SharePoint over the web I get the following error. "there was an error opening this document. The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"

This just started today but is happening with all computers. If I connect from the network the files work as normal and check out edit and resave. This is only happening when connecting through the internet.

I can download a copy but not direct open it. Please help
