Downloading Word Docs from Sharepoint

I work with a Sharepoint site where Microsoft Word docs are shared daily between students and tutors.  Up until this past weekend, I was able to right click on the link to the doc and save file as to download the document.  Now it constantly redirects to wordviewer.aspx.  This happens in Firefox and Chrome, but not IE.  I have no admin rights to Sharepoint.  Is there some way to make this work the way it used to?  Please help!!!

The admins on your system have evidently implemented Office Web Apps recently.  If you were an admin you could change the default for specific libraries so that they would default to open in client instead of open in browser.  But in your case the only option is to use the context menu '...' and choose either download or open in client.
