Excel Cannot Connect to SharePoint List?

Question

Monday, October 3, 2016 6:28 AM

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying export a list to Excel 2013 from sharepoint 2010.

I'm receiving the following error :

"Cannot Connect to the Server at this time. Changes to your data cannot be saved?"

I've tried repairing the Office 2013 and also unchecking the option from IE "Check for server certificate revocation".

Please also note that the sharepoint site is online site. I'm trying to export list from the same site to Excel 2013.

Please help to advise.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I've experienced this issue when upgraded the Office 2010 to 2013.
Please follow the below steps which helped to resolve the above mentioned error for me.

  1. Open Excel 2013
  2. Go to "Data" tab from top menu.
  3. Click on "From Web" from the menu items.
  4. Connect your site with this.
  5. Import the data.
  6. Now go back to the IE and export List (which you were doing previously).
  7. The List will be exported.

Please let me know if this solution doesn't help to resolve the issue.

Thanks!!

This seems like a inefficient work-around. You should never have to do this in order to Export to Excel (the ribbon option should work).

What i have found is that if you are running monitoring tools (like APM), the tools are what prevents the Export to Excel functionality.  I am unsure how the monitoring tools are monitoring .net service calls, but I know that removing the monitoring tools allows the Export to Excel to function as expected.

Can anyone help understand why application performance monitoring tools would cause this issue?

been having the same problem, with a user, who's permission permit exporting to excel.

Investigating the issue further, got me trying to open the .iqy file, which is downloaded once you export a list in excel, from within the excel interface by specifying an existing connection, at which point i got a message about Network security and that my configuration was not permitting this user to connect to the sharepoint site.

Stripping off the Internet security from IE -> Internet Options -> Security tab and then re-enabling them, somehow got the request working again.
