How to change order of columns in the edit item screen in lists

How do I change the order of columns that appear in the edit item screen in SharePoint lists. Is that done with SharePoint designer?

 Hi BAM100,

I agree with Reeves changing column ordering in view will not work. You can go to list settings -> Columns -> Column Ordering.  Change the column order here. For the list that doesn't give you option, you will need to arrange this ordering at list schema level.

Hi BAM100,

You should change the column ordering in the list settings, not the view settings. If you create a custom list you'll be able to find the "Column ordering" setting link in list settings under the list of column names (List tab -> List Settings in "Columns" section).

Note: some lists may not present you with the option to change column order.

Don't go to views 

Just go to setting-> list settings/document library settings->below you will column ordering option click on it and change the order and back to lists/DL and drop down item select edit properties you will see the changes.

or you going to see the changes in lists view/DL view for that go's to same navigation there you can find the below named as default view and change the view

Maybe I am not being clear. IF I select "standard view" in the ribbon, and the click on the hyperlinked data item then I am presented with a dialog with the option to "edit item." In the screen window that then displays, the columns I can edit are listed. I would like to change the order of the items listed. I have modfied the column order with the view modification tools, but that only appears to affect the order columns display in the datasheet view
