Specific software update won't download on clients

Question

Monday, December 10, 2018 6:08 PM

Hi,

This is my first time asking question on that forum. I hope information I'll provide will be enough. I have an issue with KB4132216 for Windows 10 LTSB 1607. I've created a Software Update Group, downloaded update and made sure that Deployment Package was properly copied to my DP. I deployed the software update group to a specific collection (Windows 10 computers) and update couldn't be downloaded to clients. I've set a Maintenance Window and Deadline for that deployment. Other updates are downloading and installing properly to clients. Only that specific update that don't work.

Please note that I've deleted the package and started over and got same result.

Get that error from client WUAHandler.log

Unexpected HRESULT for downloading complete: 0x80072efd WUAHandler 12/10/2018 12:04:28 PM 32 (0x0020)

Error from Deployment Status Asset Message: 0X80072EFD

Thanks

Pat

Hi, There is a new one in November so could you just offer that in place?

https://support.microsoft.com/en-nz/help/4465659/servicing-stack-update-for-windows-10

It replaces the May one, so now expired I will guess.

Regards,

Nik

0x80072efd = "A connection with the server could not be established"

This is indicative of something external to ConfigMgr interefering with the connection between the client and the WSUS instance or DP.

Is only one system having issues?

Have you reviewed updatehandler.log on the client?

Have you validated that your AV product is not getting in the way (on the client or DP)?

Thanks for your reply Jason,

Other software updates are downloading to clients. Only that update won't work. All Windows 10 WS have the same issue. I've been able to deploy application packages with no problem, same for Office 2010 and 2013, Windows 7 and 8.1 updates. Only that specific update won't copy to clients.

Here are error from updatehandler.log.

Here's what I would try:

- Delete the update from the update package (not update group).

- Re-download it to the update package (or even creating a new update package just for this update).

- Validation the update package successfully distributed to your DPs.

- Try installing it again.

Hi Jason,

Did that already. I even validated content twice on my DP and redistributed twice as well. Same result. It only does that with that specific KB.

Then there's definitely something external interfering as originally noted and indicated by the error message.

Have you reviewed the IIS log on the DP (matching by client IP and time of day)?

Have you validated that your AV is not the culprit (on the DP or the clients) as noted above as well?

Thank you all. I've verified and yes KB4132216 has been superseded with KB4465659. That KB installed properly. Thank you all for your help.
