Question

Monday, August 31, 2015 7:30 AM

I installed SQL Server 2014 Standard on a Thinkpad Carbon which has a sceen of 2560 x 1440. It seems to work OK except SSMS user interface has too small fonts bad proportions of screen layonut. E g "attach .." has wrong proportions and buttons are almost invisible and not reachable. Runs Windows 10. Visual Studio 2015 works fine.

Hi OrjanLer,

Based on my research, several persons get the issue that SQL Server Management Studio(SSMS) does not work properly in high resolution. You can vote this issue here or submit a new feedback to the Microsoft Connect at this link https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback .

In addition, I recommend you change the display resolution of your computer to relatively small size. And change the 'Compatibility Settings' for SSMS.exe. In SQL Server Management Studio properties, choose the Setting: 'Disable display scaling on high DPI settings'. Then reopen SSMS to check if it works as expected.

Thanks,

Thank you Lydia, it helped with your 'Disable ..." proposal. But unfortunately this helped only temporarily. When I logged in once more it was the same problem when I tried "Databases/Attach..". I tried changing again and restarted the computer. it worked again. But then this has not help at all, even with doing a restart after setting (the setting was Active anyway in the properties window). Actually when it "worked" there was still a bit garbled in the left pane of the "Attach" window, but that did not stop me using it. I also tried, when it worked with two screens, both of the high resolution - and it work like with the one screen. /Örjan

Hi OrjanLer,

The SSMS November preview release includes support for bitmap scaling that might help with your issue. Could you give it a try?
