New clinical letter documents

  • Description: Dragon Copilot now supports three new clinical letter types generated directly within a session: consultation summaries/letters to the general practitioner, letters to patients, and referral letters. When configured, these letters are generated as separate outputs in the new Documents section in the navigation tab, where clinicians can review and edit them before transferring them to the EHR. Letter generation can be configured through a new section in Dragon Copilot Settings or within the library. When enabled, selected letters are automatically created after an ambient recording, helping reduce manual documentation effort.

    • For all customers, the Draft referral letter prompt is removed from the Nuance Command Center and Dragon admin center settings.

    • For customers who already have the Draft referral letter prompt enabled, the new Documents section and Referral letter document appear by default.

Multilingual clinical note generation

  • Description: Dragon Copilot supports 58 spoken languages to capture the patient-clinician conversation. In Dragon admin center, if you select Multilingual as the recording language, the Dragon Copilot app user interface is in English, the AI-generated transcripts are written in the spoken language (in Canada, the output is in one paragraph and speakers aren't identified; in the US, speaker separation is only available for English and Spanish), and notes are written in English. The accuracy of transcripts and notes varies by the language the user is speaking and all output must be reviewed.

Dragon Copilot app enhancements

  • Description: Enhancements to the Dragon Copilot app enable users to surface insights from patient recordings throughout the shift and automate next steps. Users can easily access insights from their recordings, leveraging the summary of pending care activities, recent patient interactions, or through Copilot chat. Users can also save time by using Copilot to draft communications and notes or using prompts that the healthcare organization can configure in the library. For more detailed descriptions of the capabilities supported as part of the Dragon Copilot app enhancements for the 3.6 release, see the following.

    • Patient-centric homepage: A unified, patient‑centric homepage helps users quickly see who they're caring for and navigate to the correct patient context. After signing into Dragon Copilot, users land on a homepage that displays a scrollable list of patients with key details including name, gender, age, date of birth, medical record number, room number, and most recent transcript timestamp. The app automatically organizes patients by most recent recording activity. Optional supports includes pinning patients, marking patients as unread, and searching by name, medical record number, or room number. The list refreshes automatically after 10 hours of inactivity.

    • Comprehensive patient view: A single, patient‑centric hub that brings together all recorded information created by using Dragon Copilot, AI‑generated nurse notes, recent patient interactions, summary of pending care activities, and Copilot chat in one place. This view reduces navigation across session workspaces and helps users quickly find the information they need.

    • Summary of pending care activities: A concise, shift‑based summary that highlights pending care activities captured during patient interactions. The summary is updated automatically after each recording to extract new pending care activities and remove those that are completed. This view helps users quickly identify follow‑ups and next steps for each patient, without needing to review individual transcripts, thus reducing cognitive load and supporting efficient care delivery.

    • Nurse note: Consolidates prior note‑type AI actions (create narrative note, create provider notification, and create incident note) into a single nurse note experience. Each note is linked to a single interaction and is based only on that interaction's transcript. Users can create, edit, and regenerate notes throughout their shift. Notes are stored for the duration of the shift unless copied into the EHR and do not back‑update when new recordings are added to the session.

    • Query and summarize transcripts: Enables users to ask natural‑language questions across all patient interaction transcripts from the current shift and receive answers grounded in recorded conversations to support recall. Accessed via Copilot chat from the comprehensive patient view, this feature supports time‑based reasoning, multi‑session queries, summarization, and value identification. If an answer is not found in transcripts, the question is routed to information assist. Responses are generated for recall purposes and are not meant to be used for documentation.

    • Library: Provides access to administrator prompts surfaced in the comprehensive patient view when enabled via Dragon admin center settings.

    • Information assist: Three core feature capabilities expand how users can ask questions and receive reliable answers. Together, these capabilities broaden question coverage while maintaining safety, governance, and trust:

      • Multi-intent queries allow users to ask multiple, related questions in a single request, eliminating separate prompts.

      • Clinical coder integration responds to coding-specific requests such as identifying relevant ICD-10 codes.

      • Safeguarded global search initiates a safety-reviewed global search when configured or institutional sources don't provide an answer, which maintains grounded, citation-based responses aligned with clinical guardrails.

    • Updates to existing components and user interface:

      • Patient details: Introduces patient‑centric details accessible from the overflow menu in the patient header. Provides source data without disrupting primary workflows, lists all sessions for the patient during the current shift grouped by timestamp, and surfaces session and diagnostic identifiers to support troubleshooting.

      • Responsible AI feedback categories: Expands feedback options so nurses can more precisely, indicate when a Copilot response needs improvement or is offensive, inappropriate, or biased.

      • Updates to first run experience and setup wizard: Aligning with the patient-centric user interface, users have a seamless approach to customize their experience and get access to help resources when needed.

  • Region: US

  • Action required: No action required except for summary of pending care activities - customers must enable the summary feature in Dragon admin center settings. If this feature isn't enabled, summary-related experiences aren't included. For more information, see Configure settings.

Dragon Copilot mobile

Epic FHIR API activation

  • Description: To enhance Dragon Copilot's capabilities and support more accurate, clinically grounded documentation, Microsoft is enabling a limited set of Epic FHIR APIs. These APIs allow Dragon Copilot to securely access relevant structured and unstructured EHR data, such as medications, conditions, and prior notes. This access reduces the need for clinicians to re-enter existing information and improves the quality of future documentation.

The data enhances the quality and completeness of AI-generated clinical documentation by grounding Dragon Copilot responses in the patient's existing clinical context. This approach supports safety-focused use cases by relying on authoritative EHR data rather than inference alone. As a result, customers benefit from more accurate documentation with less clinician effort, reduced risk of omissions or inconsistencies, and increased confidence in Copilot-generated outputs.
