import CSV into Visio and auto assign shapes

Question

Saturday, June 17, 2017 11:47 AM

Hi,

I have a serverlist in excel with server name, Operating system etcetera.

What i want to do is that based on operating system that visio chooses a different shape.

and also puts the name of the server under the shape.

I already came that far to import the csv as external data into visio and that i can link a server to one shape and get the name underneath it.

but i don't know how to choose different shapes automatically based on OS.

Anyone ?

Hi,

You can use Visio Data Visualizer feature, that is available for our Visio Pro for O3065 users only. Using the feature, you can import your Excel file that has your serverlist and create your diagram automatically.

You can also specify the Visio shape to operating system column value mapping during creation. This will ensure that shape created is chosen based on the column value.

Hi,

Based on your description, you want to import data to Visio and fit different service name with shapes automatically.

Is my understanding correct?

If yes, as far as I know you cannot fit data to shapes automatically. But maybe you can try to use Macro to get the result.

Please let me know if my understanding is correct and if you would like further assistance, I'm glad to help you.
