WDS error - event ID 1284 source BINLSVC

Question

Sunday, March 18, 2018 1:46 PM

Hello,

I have a problem with role WDS on virtual server (Windows Server 2016 on VMware)
We get an error (Event Viewer):
Description: "An error occurred while trying to create the directory for the  architecture.Error Information: 0x3"
Event ID 1284
Source BINLSVC

I was looking on official page Microsoft and we found:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2008-R2-and-2008/cc726671(v%3dws.10)

I have checked permissions for folder E:\RemoteInstall and "WDSServer" account is set to Full control.

Also I have checked registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WDSServer\
and "WDSServer" node was set Full Control for user "SYSTEM".

Could you help me with this? Please

Hi,

I found a reply by a VMware user:

"if you still have this problem in vmware try and check if your server is not on nat type. if so you have to change your server manager and your wds to vmnet3 "

Hi,

Thanks for answer. I tried and I have set Server mode: Native (Windows Deployment Services).
I change my network card in vmware on "vmnet3" and unfortunately it did not help.

I still same a problem.

Best Regards.

I have this same problem too. Any fix? Nothing seems to help. I don't have a VM, Windows Server 2016 installed to physical server.

I too have this issue also on 2016 native hardware - no VM involved.  However in spite of this error PXE boots and installations work just fine.

Did you ever get any response/resolution on this?

Best Regards

I had this same problem with Server 2016 and WDS when trying to use it with MDT. In my case \RemoteInstall\Boot\x64\wdsmgfw.efi was missing and caused errors. I upgraded Windows ADK 1803 to ADK 1809, regenerated MDT boot image and added it to WDS and PXE started working.

Event ID 1284 is misleading and seems to have nothing to do with real problems. I can see this same error on servers where WDS is working without problems.

I had this too.  Turns out ADK wasn't even installed!  Seems I forgot to reinstall when upgrading the ADK kits across the DP's.  Installed 1809 still get the same error.
