hi I just got an email this morning that someone was added to my family safety. I don't have family safety. Then a few mins later I get a charge from Microsoft for $50 on my bank account. Is this a scam?

It's fake. I have Windows and Microsoft Family Safety has always and still has been completely free since Windows 7. If you don't have it and you got an E-mail saying someone was added to your family, it was probably a scam, or your account was hacked. I wouldn't click anything on those E-mails in case if it was a phishing E-mail. If you don't have Office 365 then it's totally fake.

    Regards,

    Jay

Thank you for posting this. I just received one of these emails as well and do not recall ever signing up for a Microsoft Family Safety plan. My platform is a Mac and I use an old version of Microsoft Suite (2011), and have never signed up for Microsoft 365. I will also report this.

This morning received a mail from Microsoft Family safety that action was required. I have to respond to have my family safety environment ported to the new environment before February 24th. I can't recall I had anything to do with familysafety.

    Below the email header:

    From: Microsoft Family Safety <familysafety@microsoft.com>
    Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2024 01:44:10 +0000
Subject: Actie vereist: werk uw voorkeuren voor Family Safety bij
    Message-Id: <******@az.westus.microsoft.com>

And here's the link I have to click on:

yeah something odd is going on. I don't have my cards linked with Microsoft. I was able to remove them by logging on and removing them in the settings (I signed up back in 2019 which I forgot about) . If you are experiencing it too that means countless others as well.

I see. Unless you enter the CC info, the subscription is not done automatically. Is it possible that someone from the Family did it?
