Group Policy Management Editor bug on File Preferences (Create option is always shown)

Dears

I notice a recent "bug" on GP Editor from several servers. We're using Policy definitions centralized, always update with official packages from Microsoft.

The issue here is that when editing a preference file, it is correctly shown from the list BUT when open it is ALWAYS shown as Create

Any suggestion? Is it a bug?

Hi, it definitely looks like a bug in the Group Policy Management Editor (GPMC). If the files are listed correctly but always show the action as "Create" when opened, instead of "Update" or another expected action, this might be a GUI issue or something related to the policy files themselves.

Here are some suggestions to troubleshoot or narrow down the issue:

-Check on multiple servers – If the problem occurs everywhere, it might be related to a recent Windows update or ADMX template change.

-Verify updates – Since you're using centralized policy definitions, check if any recent ADMX/ADML updates from Microsoft introduced this behavior.

-Test with a different admin account – It could be a profile or permission issue.

-Force a GPMC refresh – Try reinstalling the administrative policy templates locally to see if the issue persists.

-Create a test policy from scratch – See if the same problem happens with a newly created policy.

If this behavior continues, it might be worth reporting it to Microsoft, especially if it affects multiple updated systems.
