Organization hierarchy overview

Note

The information in this article doesn't apply to Dragon Copilot (radiologists).

After you add an environment and provision Dragon Copilot, you can define your organization hierarchy. To create an organization hierarchy, create organizational units in Dragon admin center and define relationships to reflect your users' organizational assignments and your business needs.

For guidelines and example scenarios, see: Decision guide for your organization hierarchy.

After you create the organization hierarchy, you can:

  • Configure different product settings and library items for different organizational units. Configurations you apply to higher-level organizational units propagate down to organizational units lower in the hierarchy.

  • Assign users, healthcare groups, and Microsoft Entra security groups to organizational units. Users inherit app settings and library items from the organizational units they're assigned to.

Root organizational unit and child units

When you create an environment, it includes one default organizational unit as the root unit. You can create additional units as child units of the root unit. When you create additional units, you can select any existing unit as the parent of the new unit. For example:

Example organization hierarchy consistof a root unit, parent units, and child units

You can assign users to one or more organizational units. If you don't explicitly assign users to a unit, they are implicitly assigned to the root unit.

Each organizational unit acts as a container for Dragon Copilot settings and library items. The settings and library items configured for a higher-level unit cascade down to its child units.

Your organization hierarchy connects your users with the settings and library items they need when they work with Dragon Copilot.

For more information, see Organizational units.

Healthcare groups and Microsoft Entra groups

Healthcare groups and Entra security groups are used to add multiple user accounts to organizational units more efficiently:

  • Use healthcare groups to manage group membership in Dragon admin center. For more information, see Healthcare groups.

  • Use Entra security groups when membership is maintained in Microsoft Entra ID and you want to connect that group to one or more organizational units. For more information, see Microsoft Entra ID.

Users

Users can be assigned to organizational units as individuals or as a member of a group.

For more information, see Manage users.
