Hello Jane,

Did you have a chance to check the filename extension? A filename extension is an identifier specified as a suffix to the name of a computer file.

Anyway, the forum is for developers. I'd recommend asking non-programming questions on the Outlook IT Pro Discussions or Microsoft Community forums instead.

Jane,

"Outlook Item" usually specifies the ".msg" file format, which is used to represent individual email messages, appointments, contacts, tasks, and so on in the file system.

As asked by Eugene above, check the file extension and see if it is a .msg file. Also, any error message received when you try to open that file in Outlook?
