How to regain access to my Azure account?

I have one Microsoft personal account created in the early 2010s. Later, around 2016, I created a Windows developer account with the same email address. And around 2018 I used the same address to create an Azure account.

During troubleshooting of another issue, I removed in the Microsoft Authenticator app the account entry associated with Azure, which was separate from the entry associated with my personal Microsoft account.

I need to regain access to Azure in order to migrate a Live SDK app registration to a Microsoft Entra ID app registration. Migration is necessary to use MSAL.NET while I am updating a Store app.

The Azure website does not allow submitting a support ticket without an Azure account. It opens the login page, which recognises my email address and the prompt asks for a verification code or an Authenticator app code. These are the options. The Authenticator app code never arrives because the account entry associated with Azure does not exist.

The Azure website does not present a phone number to call.

    Hi @Julien Shepherd

Based on your description, this appears to be an MFA/authentication issue with the Microsoft Entra ID account associated with your Azure tenant, rather than a problem with your personal Microsoft account.

If the Microsoft Authenticator entry was removed and the sign-in process only offers methods you no longer have access to, you'll need the MFA methods on that Entra account to be reset. Unfortunately, this cannot be done through Microsoft Q&A.

    A few things to try:

    • Check whether the sign-in page offers**"I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now"** or another verification method.
    • If there are other Global Administrators in the tenant, they can reset your MFA registration.
    • If you are the only administrator and cannot sign in at all, you'll likely need to contact Microsoft Support for an account recovery request related to the Azure/Entra tenant.

Since you mentioned that the Azure portal won't let you create a support request because authentication is required, the best route is to use the general Microsoft support/contact channels and explain that you are locked out due to lost MFA access to the tenant. This is typically handled as an account-access recovery scenario rather than a technical Azure issue.

If this helps, please mark the answer as helpful or accepted so others facing Azure access issues after losing their Authenticator registration can find it more easily.

    Regards.
