To use Microsoft Word templates in Dynamics 365:

    1. Create or obtain a Word template.
      • In customer engagement apps, open a record for the entity you want, then select Word Templates > Download Template.
      • In Sales Professional, go to Sales Settings > Advanced Settings > Excel and Word Templates > New template > Word template.
      • Choose the entity and any related entities needed. The relationships selected determine which fields are available in the template.
    2. Build the template in Word.
      • Supported Word versions for creating templates are Word 2013 and 2016.
      • Macro-enabled Word files (.docm) aren’t supported.
      • Save the customized template after adding the fields and formatting needed.
    3. Upload the template back into Dynamics 365.
      • Admin upload path in Power Platform admin center: Manage > Environments > select environment > Settings > Templates > Document Templates > Upload Template > Upload Word Template.
      • Personal upload from a record: open a matching record, then select Word Templates > Upload Template.
      • In Customer Insights - Journeys: Settings > Business > Templates > Document Templates > Upload Template.
    4. Generate a document from the template.
      • Open a record that matches the template’s entity type.
      • Select Word Templates on the command bar, then choose the template.
      • Dynamics 365 generates the document and downloads it to the computer.

    Important details:

    • Templates only appear for matching record types. For example, an Account template won’t appear on an Opportunity record.
    • If a newly uploaded template does not appear, refresh the browser or reopen the app.
    • Word or Excel templates can only be used in the environment where they were downloaded. Environment-to-environment migration isn’t supported.
    • There is an upper limit of 100 related records per relationship returned in generated documents.
    • Admins can control access to organization-wide and personal templates through Settings > Security > Security Roles.
