A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data.
The most likely cause is that the affected rows have a fixed row height. When Wrap Text is turned on, Excel wraps the text, but if the row height is manually set, extra blank space or incomplete display can appear.
Try this on one of the affected worksheets:
- Select the cells or rows that show the problem.
- Go to Home > Format.
- Under Cell Size, select AutoFit Row Height.
If that fixes it, the issue was the row height setting.
Also check these conditions called out in Excel guidance:
- If all wrapped text is not visible, the row may be set to a specific height.
- If the text is in merged cells, wrapping can also behave unexpectedly.
If the problem only happens on one or two sheets, compare those sheets for:
- manually adjusted row heights
- merged cells in the affected area
- content pasted into cells before formatting
If the goal is to control where the text breaks, insert a manual line break inside the cell with Alt + Enter.
If the blank space appears mainly when printing or exporting to PDF, also review:
- Page Layout view
- Page Setup scaling
- column width and margins
Excel also does not split a single row across multiple printed pages, so a tall wrapped row can leave blank space at the bottom of a page.
