    Hello Alan Priestley,

I completely understand the concern, losing a month of holiday photos is genuinely distressing, and I'd want an explanation too.

To be clear, this forum is answered by community members and Microsoft volunteers, not by the team that manages your account, so nobody here removed anything.

Files can disappear from a personal OneDrive automatically in two situations: the storage limit was exceeded, or the account went unused for two years. In both cases Microsoft sends advance email and in-app notices saying "Your files will be erased on [date]" before anything is removed, worth checking your inbox and junk folder for one dated during your trip.

Please try these in order, starting today, because recovery is time-limited:

    1. Sign in at onedrive.com, open Recycle bin in the left navigation, select your photos and choose Restore. On a personal Microsoft account items are removed from the recycle bin automatically 30 days after deletion (93 days for a work or school account), so please do this first.
    2. If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription, go to Settings > Options > Restore your OneDrive. This undoes all file activity from a chosen point in the last 30 days, which is the better option if a large number of files vanished at once.
    3. If nothing is in the recycle bin, contact Microsoft Support directly through the link below — they can look at the account itself, which no one on this forum can do.

Please note that once a file has been permanently removed from the recycle bin, it cannot be recovered.

Feel free reply back to this post if you need further assistance.
