My account was recently hacked and my email name was changed. I was able to recover my email and can see emails up until it was changed but I am not longer receiving emails due to the name change. The backup email info was also changed.Searched around in circles trying to speak with an agent about how or if I can have the email switched back to my email name and not what the hackers made it.

If your old email address ended with outlook.com (i.e. did NOT end with hotmail.com, live.com, or msn.com) and you can logon to your account and get to https://account.live.com/AddAssocId then you can add back your old email.

And then make it your Primary alias.

The backup email info was also changed.

    For that go to https://account.live.com/proofs/manage/additional

If the account was hacked and the alias or backup security info was changed, the supported recovery path is:

    1. Scan the PC for malware before changing anything In Windows Security, open Virus and threat protectionScan optionsFull scanScan now.
    2. Change or reset the password If sign-in still works, change the password immediately. If not, use the password reset flow.
    3. Check account settings that attackers commonly change Review connected accounts, forwarding, and automatic replies and remove anything unfamiliar.
    4. Restore the email address/alias if sign-in is possible Go to Your info and edit account info at https://account.live.com/names/manage.
      • Select Add email to add the correct address back.
      • Select Remove next to any attacker-added address if allowed.
    5. If sign-in is not possible or security info was changed Use the Microsoft sign-in helper or account recovery flow:
    6. If the original address is no longer recognized Try any other alias or phone number previously on the account. Also verify the email domain was entered correctly, such as .com vs .co.uk.
    7. Contact support if recovery tools do not resolve it Use Contact Microsoft Support and select Get HelpContact Support.

Important: Microsoft support agents are not allowed to send password reset links or directly access and change account details. Account recovery and security changes must be completed through the official recovery and sign-in tools.
