Contact names fail to add to chats

When I try to start a chat with some contacts, their names will not add to the 'TO' line. When I try to add them, their name appears in the suggested list with 'invite' beside it but I cannot add them to the 'TO' line. Any suggestions?

    If a person shows with Invite beside their name, that usually means they are not currently available in the chat as a normal selectable contact and must be invited first.

    In Teams, people outside the organization can be added by starting a new chat and entering their email address. For some users, a phone number can also be used if they use Teams Free. If they do not already have a Teams account, they receive an invitation and must accept it before participating.

    Try this:

    1. In Teams, go to Chat.
    2. Select New chat.
    3. Enter the person’s email address instead of relying on the suggested name.
    4. If the person appears, select them from the results.
    5. Send a message to start the chat.

    Important details:

    • People using Teams Free must accept the chat invite before they can participate.
    • If the person does not have a Teams account, they will receive an invitation to create an unmanaged Teams account.
    • For existing group chats, adding external users behaves differently: if the chat does not already include at least one external participant, adding an external person creates a new group chat instead of adding them into the existing one.

    Good day Ken, 

    When a contact appears with Invite beside their name, Teams may be identifying that person as being outside your organization or as not having an active Teams account. If the person doesn't have a Teams account, Teams normally sends an invitation for the person to create an unmanaged Teams account. Communication can also be restricted by the external access settings of either organization. 

    Please try these steps: 

    Open Teams > Chat > New chat. 

    Enter the contact's full email address in the To field instead of searching by name. 

    If the contact appears, select it and send a message. 

    If the contact still cannot be selected: 

    1/ Ask the contact to check their email and accept any Teams invitation they have received. 

    2/ Contact your organization's IT administrator and ask them to verify that:

    External Access is enabled. 

    The contact's email domain isn't blocked. 

    Communication between both organizations is allowed. 

    If you need ongoing collaboration with the external user, your administrator can also add them as a guest, then the user can accept the invitation and participate in Teams chats.

    Sorry - I have tried all of the suggestions provided (thank you!) but to no avail. The persons I am trying to contact are in an organisation that uses Teams are their preferred online meeting system. I am using a personal Microsoft home subscritpion.

    There are other glitches in Teams that make me wonder if I should just try to re-install it or move to another platform.
