Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
This usually means the alias is no longer valid on the account, or the verification link is opening in the wrong signed-in session.
Try this:
- Open an InPrivate or Incognito browser window.
- Sign in to Manage how you sign in to Microsoft.
- Check whether the email address still appears under Account aliases.
- If it is listed and shows Verify, select Verify and then Send email to generate a fresh verification message.
- If it is not listed, the alias no longer exists on the account. Add it again from Manage how you sign in to Microsoft, then verify the new message.
- Open the verification email in a separate private/incognito window and use the full verification link.
- If the alias was just created and Outlook.com shows a delay, sign out of Outlook.com, close all browser windows, then sign in again.
Important checks:
- An alias cannot be added if it is already associated with another Microsoft account.
- Existing @hotmail.com, @live.com, @outlook.com, and @msn.com addresses cannot be added as aliases.
- Verification emails can go to Junk. Valid Microsoft account verification messages come from @accountprotection.microsoft.com.
- Avoid repeated verification requests in a short time, because Microsoft can temporarily stop sending codes or verification messages.
If the alias is present but every new verification link still says it does not exist, use Contact Support from the Microsoft support flow.

- Can't verify new email to old account - Microsoft Q&A I am trying to verify a new email to make it the primary email and get rid of my old one, but when i press the verify button i get an email saying "If you added this email address as an alias, use this link to verify:" - when i click on this it just brings me to the "View basic information" page in my account. I have attempted this for two days and it still does the same and my new email is not verified, although it is still attached to my account. However when i try to log in with the new email it does not recognise it. How can i get my new email verified please?
