My mother changed computer and recently set a new password for better protect her account. However, she forgot the new password and tried to sign in so many times by too many methods that she cannot longer enter the email. We set the biometric verification and it was correctly verified, but the account still doesn't let us sign in.

Unfortunately, they forgot the backup email's password and we already filled the form for recovery. We know this is due security protocol, but she is in a urgency to enter her account.

If too many sign-in or recovery attempts were made, the account can be temporarily locked. The supported next steps are:

    1. Stop further sign-in and recovery attempts for now. Repeated attempts can keep the lock in place.
    2. Wait for the cooldown period, which is typically about 24 hours before trying again.
    3. After waiting, try again from a device and location previously used with that account, if possible.
    4. If the password is still unknown and the backup verification methods are unavailable, use the Account recovery form.
    5. The recovery result is sent to the working email address entered in the form within 24 hours.
    6. If the recovery request is denied, it can be retried up to two times per day.
    7. If the account has two-step verification enabled and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, support agents cannot reset the password or change account details.
    8. If the account is a work or school account and the password is known but all security info is lost, at the Verify your identity prompt select I don't have any of these and follow the steps to replace security info. After replacement, sign-in is blocked for 30 days.

Important: Microsoft support agents and advocates are not allowed to send password reset links or access and change account details.

What does the Account Sign-In Helper say about the status of your account and what suggestions does it offer to gain access?

    • In a Private/Incognito browser session, open: https://aka.ms/sign-in-helper
    • Scroll down to "Choose how you normally sign in, then enter your details"
    • Click "With an email address"
    • Enter your email address and click [OK]

Unfortunately, they forgot the backup email's password and we already filled the form for recovery. We know this is due security protocol, but she is in a urgency to enter her account.

If you can not complete any verification method (e.g. Password, code sent in an email) then your only path forward is the Account Recovery Process.
