Migrating Email To fasthosts using Audriga Tool Fails To Accept Newly Generated App Password

Hi

I am attempting to migrate emails from my @outlook.com email account into fasthosts using their migration tool "Audriga".

I have deduced that, sunce I use 2 factor, I need to create a App Password, which I have done, but the tool fails Authentication. I also tried the same newly generated password in an online tool to test IMAP connections and that also fails. That test produces this output:

Trying to connect outlook.office365.com:143 <-- * OK Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 service ready. Removed PII] (tcpproxy/Removed PII] BACKENDAUTHENTICATE) [Removed PII]==] --> 0 LOGIN [Removed PII]@outlook.com [Removed PII] <-- 0 BAD Command received in Invalid state.

What am I doing wrong?

I have tried fasthosts pre-configured 365 migration, I have also tried the more manual configuration via IMAP using the IMAP server outlook.office365.com.

Help?

Hi @Stuart Wells

You are probably not doing anything wrong with the app password. The issue is that the connection shown in the log is using the IMAP LOGIN command, which is Basic Authentication. Outlook.com now requires OAuth2/Modern Authentication for IMAP, so neither your normal password nor an app password will authenticate through that method

The test is also using port 143, whereas the documented Outlook.com IMAP settings are:

Server: outlook.office365.com

Port: 993

Encryption: SSL/TLS

Authentication: OAuth2/Modern Authentication

Please check with Fasthosts or Audriga whether their migration option supports OAuth for a personal Outlook.com account You should normally be redirected to a Microsoft sign-in page to authorize mailbox access. If their tool only provides username and password fields, it is likely using an authentication method Outlook.com no longer accepts.

Hope this helps

Turns out, Audriga only supports username password, so it is no longer possible to migrate emails off @outlook.com using such a tool.

I have migrated my emails in a more manual manner, my adding both old and new accounts to the outlook client and then copying the emails and folders between them (right mouse button, drag, drop...select copy).

Wasn't too painful, but would have been easier to use the app password if it had worked.

    Thanks
