Hello,

I got into a loop while authenticator's sending code. I tried to sign in one of my account back into authentificator this morning, it showed me the code first, but the pop up window where I can type the code won't show up. For now, I think my account is locked and it's having trouble verifying my account, and stop sending me any code since multiple attempts failed before. Because of this, I can't login to my school account. Please help me with this issue. Thanks.

    Hello @Dian Tang

Since this is a school account and you no longer have your original multi-factor authentication (MFA) method, the quickest solution is to contact your school's support team or system administrator. They can reset your authentication settings and guide you through setting up the Authenticator app again on your new device.

Please ask them to follow the instructions in this article to reset your authentication settings so you can re-register your account:

Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra Multi-Factor Authentication - Microsoft Entra ID |...

For security and management purposes, only IT administrators in your organization can manage MFA access and settings for school accounts.

Once you regain access, it's a good idea to set up an additional sign-in method if your facility allows it (such as a phone number or email address); This will give you a backup option in case something similar happens again.

    I hope this helps.

For a school account, repeated failed sign-in attempts can trigger Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication protection and temporarily block more attempts. The supported recovery path is:

    1. Stop repeated sign-in attempts for now. Multiple attempts can cause Microsoft Entra MFA to prevent additional attempts.
    2. Try a different MFA method if another one is already registered for the account.
    3. On the phone, check the Authenticator app itself:
      • Make sure the app is unlocked.
      • Make sure notifications are enabled and not silent.
      • Update Microsoft Authenticator to the latest version.
      • Check internet connectivity and try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
      • Make sure the device date and time are correct.
    4. If the app showed a code but the approval/input prompt did not appear, open Authenticator and confirm the account is still listed and the app opens without errors.
    5. If the issue continues after waiting and trying another method, contact the school IT administrator or help desk. For work or school accounts, the admin should investigate the Microsoft Entra sign-in logs.
    6. Before contacting the admin, use Send feedback in the Authenticator app to capture logs for diagnostics.

If the account is blocked because of repeated attempts, waiting until the block clears and avoiding more retries is important.
