I receive the error "Sorry, something went wrong. We’re not sure what happened, but refreshing the page may help, or trying again in a little while."

I have tried this on multiple computers and receive the error every time. My recent attempt TraceId: [PII removed]

    Hi, Lyle Carlson

This error may occur when the organizer’s subscription sharing status or the pending family membership is stuck, rather than because of the computer being used.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

Ask the organizer to sign in to the Microsoft Family page and check whether your account appears as a Pending member. If it does, select More > Cancel invite, then add your account to the family group again.

Once your account appears as a family member, the organizer should open Services & subscriptions and confirm that the Microsoft 365 Family subscription is active and that at least one sharing slot remains. Only the subscription owner can share benefits, with up to five other people.

Check whether your account already receives Microsoft 365 benefits from another shared subscription. An account that already has the same shared benefits cannot be added again.

If everything looks correct but the error continues, contact Microsoft Support while signed in with the organizer’s account. Include the TraceId and the approximate date and time of the failed attempt, as these details can help support locate the server-side error.

For a Microsoft 365 Family invitation that fails with "Sorry, something went wrong", the supported steps are:

    1. Use the invitation within 48 hours of when it was sent. Older links can expire.
    2. Ask the family organizer to resend the invitation if the current link may be stale.
    3. Open the new invitation in a different browser or in an InPrivate/Incognito window.
    4. Sign in with the account that was invited before accepting the invitation.
    5. If email acceptance keeps failing, ask the organizer to resend the invitation by SMS or through a social media app.
    6. If the error says the account is already in a family group, the invited account must leave the other family group first before it can join this one.

The TraceId identifies the failed attempt, but the documented guidance for this family invitation error is to retry with a fresh invitation and a clean browser session.
