    Hi erling,

If this is a school-issued account, installing Microsoft Authenticator on the new phone does not automatically replace the registration linked to the old phone.

    Please try the following:

    1. On a computer, open Security info and sign in with your student account.
    2. If prompted to approve the sign-in on the old phone, select I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now or Sign in another way.
    3. Use another registered method, such as SMS or a phone call.
    4. Once signed in, select Add sign-in method > Microsoft Authenticator, then scan the QR code with Authenticator on the new phone.
    5. Confirm that the new phone works before removing the old Authenticator entry.

Microsoft provides the setup steps here: Add a work or school account to Microsoft Authenticator.

If Authenticator on the old phone was your only verification method and no alternative is offered, please contact your school’s IT help desk. Ask them to reset or require re-registration of MFA for your account. Depending on the school’s configuration, they may also be able to issue a Temporary Access Pass so you can register the new phone. This change must be handled by the administrator managing the school account.
