Intermittent visibility of task comments in Microsoft Teams Planner (New Planner App) for specific users

Hi,

We have recently encountered a critical and very disruptive issue regarding task comments within Microsoft Teams Planner (the new Planner experience).

Problem Description: Random users within our team are completely unable to see comments inside specific tasks.

  • It is not a notification issue: We are not talking about missing email alerts. The comments are physically not visible within the task's chat/comment section inside the Teams interface for certain individuals, while other members of the same plan can see them perfectly.
  • Low comment volume: This happens even in brand-new tasks with only 2 to 5 comments. It is not related to the 100-comment thread limit or long task history.
  • Recent occurrence: This behavior started happening very recently, likely after one of the recent updates to the New Teams / Planner app ecosystem.

Has anyone else experienced this recently? Is this a known regression or a service degradation on Microsoft's end? Any advice on a permanent fix would be highly appreciated.

Thank you!

    Hi @Karol,

Thank you for posting on the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how disruptive this can be, especially when task comments are being used for collaboration and only certain team members are affected.

Based on my research, I have not found any recent official Microsoft communication or service health announcement indicating a known incident or service degradation specifically related to task comments in the new Planner experience within Teams. That does not completely rule out a product issue, but at this time there does not appear to be any publicly announced incident from Microsoft.

To help narrow down the cause, could you please provide some additional information?

    • Are the affected users able to see comments in all tasks, or only in specific tasks?
    • Are the affected users members of the plan through the same Team, or are some of them guests/external users?
    • Are all affected users running the latest version of the Teams client?
    • If the affected users open the same task in Planner for Web, can they see the comments there?
    • Approximately how many users are affected, and are they all in the same department or location?
    • Have you noticed whether newly created comments are affected, or only older comments?

In the meantime, please ask one of the affected users to reset Microsoft Teams and test again:

    1. Completely quit Microsoft Teams.
    2. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps. User's image
      1. Search for Microsoft Teams.
    3. Select Advanced options. User's image
    4. Click Reset. User's image
    5. Restart the computer.
    6. Sign back in to Teams and check whether the task comments are visible.

    If possible, please also share:

    • A screenshot from an affected user showing that the comments are missing.
    • A screenshot from an unaffected user viewing the same task and comments.
    • The Teams desktop client version being used by both affected and unaffected users.

These details will help me better understand whether this is a client-side issue, a permissions-related issue, or something else.

Thank you again for your time and understanding.  I really appreciate your patience, and I’m here to help. Looking forward to your response.

@Karol were you able to find any correlation or open a support ticket? I have users experiencing the same issue only when User 1 makes an initial Task chat comment, then User 2 @mention of a User 1, but I am unable to reproduce it.
