To re-link a OneDrive for Business account on Windows:

    1. Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the notification area.
    2. Select Help and Settings > Settings.
    3. Open the Account tab.
    4. If the work account is already unlinked, start OneDrive again if needed: press the Windows key, type OneDrive, then open the OneDrive app.
    5. Sign in with the work or school account.
    6. When prompted that a OneDrive folder already exists, select Use this folder.
      • Select Choose new folder instead if the OneDrive folder should be moved.
    7. OneDrive will sync the files and folders back to the computer. It will initially download placeholders for files, so full sync can take some time.

If sign-in does not work correctly after unlinking, clear the saved OneDrive sign-in state first:

    1. Press Windows key + R.
    2. Enter %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\settings and select OK.
    3. Delete PreSignInSettingsConfig.json.
    4. Open OneDrive again and sign in with the business account.

If the issue started because of a sign-in error such as 0x8004de80 or 0x8004de86, Microsoft also recommends:

    • Uninstall and reinstall OneDrive if unlink/relink does not resolve it.
    • If multiple account identities are cached, clear the cached Office account identities from the registry. This is a higher-risk step and should be done carefully.

For a work or school account, if the business account still cannot be re-linked, contact the organization’s IT helpdesk, service desk, or admin.

    Hi @DavidMeinhard-4333,

Thank you for posting on the Microsoft Q&A forum.

If your Business OneDrive account was unlinked from the OneDrive sync client, you can usually reconnect it by signing back in with your work or school account.

Please try the following steps or you could refer to the AI suggestion:

    1. Click the OneDrive cloud icon in the Windows notification area (system tray).
    2. Select Settings > Account. User's image
    3. If you are currently signed in only with your personal Microsoft account, click Add an account. User's image
    4. Enter your work or school account credentials associated with your Microsoft 365 subscription.
    5. Follow the prompts to set up and sync your Business OneDrive again.

To better understand the situation, could you also let me know:

    • Are you receiving any error messages when trying to add the account back? If so, please provide a screenshot with any personal information removed.
    • Was the account merely unlinked, or was OneDrive completely signed out and reset as part of the troubleshooting process?

Thank you again for your time and understanding. I look forward to your update.
