Inconsistency between Dataverse and Project Web - Task Completion Percentage (msdyn_progress)

Greetings,

I am trying to use Power Bi to simply display Project for the Web or Planner data...I have tasks that are reporting 100% in Planner but they are showing as 0% in the Dataverse. However, this issue does not happen to all 100% complete tasks Planner...it appears to not be related to LOE either since that is completed as well. There is no indication as to why there is this problem. I cannot accurately report from the Dataverse if the data contained does not match the source data or Planner data consistently. Please advise.

Regards,

WCJ

Hi Winston,

Thank you for reaching out and for providing the details and screenshots.

The issue appears to be a synchronization inconsistency between Planner and Dataverse. Planner processes task updates through the Project Scheduling Service, and those updates are then written to Dataverse. In some cases, the task can display as 100% complete in Planner while the corresponding Percent Complete value in Dataverse remains at 0.00.

Because Power BI reads the task data from Dataverse, Power BI will also display 0%, even though Planner shows the task as complete. This indicates that Power BI is reporting the available Dataverse value correctly, but the underlying Dataverse record has not been updated as expected.

To resolve the issue, please try the following steps:

  1. Open an affected task in Planner.
  2. Change the task completion percentage from 100% to a lower value, such as 99% or 0%.
  3. Save the task and allow the change to complete.
  4. Mark the task as 100% complete again.
  5. Wait several minutes, then refresh the Project Tasks table in Dataverse.
  6. Confirm that the Dataverse value changes from 0.00 to 1.00, where 1.00 represents 100%.
  7. Refresh the Power BI dataset after Dataverse displays the correct value.

If the value remains at 0.00, a Power Platform administrator should review the Operation Set and Project Scheduling Service error logs under the Schedule Integration settings. These logs may identify a failed or incomplete task update.

Please do not manually change the Percent Complete value directly in Dataverse, as this could create further inconsistencies with the Planner scheduling engine.

I hope the information I shared earlier was somewhat helpful in addressing your issue. If you have any further questions or updates, please don’t hesitate to share. I’m always happy to assist further if needed.
