Hoping for some help login onto my work computer. My company is a small start up with no IT. Last Thursday I tried logging in using my PIN but said it was incorrect. Tried password option with the key symbol and said THAT was incorrect. Was able to change password on phone but still doesn't work on computer. Computer has been restarted and confirmed logged onto internet. When I try forgot my password or PIN is just shows Microsoft window with spinning thing for a while then says try again later

    Hello Brian,

Your password reset worked in the cloud but your PC is still stuck with cached credentials. On the login screen, select “Sign-in options,” choose “Password,” and type your full email address with the new password. If that fails, use “Other user” and manually enter the account to force online validation. The spinning “try again later” usually means the device cannot reach Microsoft’s login servers, so confirm you have unrestricted internet access and try another network if possible.

If login still fails, boot into Safe Mode with Networking, then delete the contents of C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC to clear the corrupted PIN cache. After reboot, sign in with your new password and reconfigure the PIN under Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options. If the machine is Azure AD joined and still refuses the password, it may require rejoining the domain, which needs admin credentials. Without IT support, you may need to contact Microsoft directly to reset the trust relationship.

I hope you've found something useful here. If it helps you get more insight into the issue, it's appreciated to accept the answer. Should you have more questions, feel free to leave a message. Have a nice day!

    HP.

Since the PC is online, the most useful next steps are:

    1. On the Windows sign-in screen, select Sign-in options and choose the password option instead of the PIN. PIN and biometric options can be unavailable or out of sync in some recovery scenarios.
    2. If the password was changed for a work or school account, and the lock screen Forgot password flow only spins and then says try again later, the password reset path may be controlled by the organization. In that case:
      • If the reset page says Please contact your administrator, the password is managed by the organization and must be reset through the administrator/contact-admin path.
      • If it says We couldn't verify your account, either security info was not registered for self-service reset, or password reset is not enabled for the organization.
    3. If repeated sign-in attempts were made, wait before trying again. Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication can temporarily block more attempts after unusual or repeated sign-ins. If another MFA method is available, use that method.
    4. Try Safe Mode with Networking to rule out a Windows sign-in issue:
      • On the sign-in screen, select Power > Restart.
      • When the sign-in screen is visible, hold Shift while selecting Power > Restart.
      • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
      • After restart, select 5 or press F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
      • In Safe Mode, try signing in with the password.
    5. If there is another account on the device, try signing in with that account from the lower-left account list or choose Other user. If successful, check for Windows updates and review the existing accounts.
    6. If the device still will not accept the password, use the Microsoft account sign-in helper from another device to identify the account issue.

If this is an organization-managed work account and there is no IT staff, the remaining supported path is the organization administrator/contact-admin route for password reset and account verification.
