How to fix (IN S MODE) AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive\Codes\8.0.0.54\avutil-60.dll

In Windows 11 in S mode, OneDrive cannot be reinstalled while staying in S mode. The documented Microsoft Q&A guidance is that there is no OneDrive installer for S mode, so the only way to reinstall OneDrive is to switch out of S mode. That change is one-way and cannot be undone.

Before doing that, try the non-reinstall fixes that are supported for OneDrive startup and sync problems:

1. Install all Windows updates
   • Open Start and search for Check for updates.
   • Install all available updates.
   • This is specifically recommended for OneDrive error 0x80070005 and update-related failures.
2. Reset OneDrive
   • Press Windows + R.
   • Run:

          %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
     

   • If Windows cannot find it, run:

          C:\Program Files\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
     

   • If that also fails, run:

          C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
     

   • Then open Start, search for OneDrive, and start it manually.
   Note: resetting OneDrive disconnects existing sync connections, but it does not delete files or data. Folder sync selections may need to be set again after sync completes.
3. If the problem is specifically an update/install failure
   • Press Windows + R.
   • Run:

          %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\update
     

   • Then double-click OneDriveSetup.exe if it appears.

If those steps do not resolve the DLL startup errors, the remaining documented reinstall path conflicts with S mode. In that case, the supported next step is switching out of S mode if reinstall is required.
