Onenote for Android not updating "Recent pages" but still syncs pages

My android phone asks me to sign in because Sticky Notes will not sync. When I try to log in I get an error page "Something went wrong [9hehw]". This means that I can no longer see my Recent Pages. Meanwhile the Notebook list and Sections update quite happily.

I have signed out, deleted the cache and data, done a reinstall etc. No luck...help please?

    Hello PickleB and everyone,

I understand that OneNote on Android shows the 9hehw sign-in error, preventing Sticky Notes and Recent Pages from loading, while notebooks and sections continue syncing normally.

This issue has reached the OneNote product team. The root cause has been identified, and a backend fix is currently being rolled out. Since the rollout may take some time, it could take up to a day before the fix reaches everyone.

Once the updated service configuration reaches your account, Sticky Notes and Recent Pages should start working again without additional troubleshooting. You will only need to restart your device to refresh the connection.

Thank you so much for your patience and your understanding.

    Best regards.

For this Android OneNote scenario, the most relevant fixes are the sign-in and sync recovery steps for OneNote and Sticky Notes:

    1. Update OneNote for Android to the latest version from the Play Store.
    2. In OneNote, sign out and then sign back in to reset credentials:
      • Open OneNote
      • Tap Notebooks at the bottom left
      • Tap the three dots menu > Settings > Account
      • Tap Sign Out > OK
      • Close OneNote from recent apps
      • Reopen OneNote and sign in again
    3. If the app shows Account Error - Action Required, check whether the personal account is listed as a phone number under Settings > Accounts. If so:
      • Update OneNote
      • Restart the app
      • If needed, go to Settings > Applications > Application Manager > OneNote > Force Stop
      • Reopen OneNote
      • Tap Add Email in the error message to connect a valid email address to the phone number. This restores syncing.
    4. For missing recent content in the feed/home experience, force-refresh the OneNote feed by swiping down on the OneNote for Android home screen.
    5. If pages are still missing from Recent Pages, check whether they fall into cases that do not appear in the feed:
      • password-protected pages
      • pages linked to restricted accounts such as government institutions
      • pages that rely on Microsoft connected experiences that were disabled by an IT admin

If notebooks and sections are syncing but Recent Pages is not updating, that points to a feed/sign-in issue rather than a full notebook sync failure.
