Has Microsoft added back the ability to turn off notifications for a shared inbox in Outlook for Mac?

I know there was a lot of discussion on this topic a couple years ago. I am disappointed that Microsoft still hasn't addressed this or put in a fix. Has anyone had any luck getting a response from Microsoft about this? It is soooo frustrating. I am in leadership of my department, so I need access to my inbox, my boss's inbox, our main department inbox, and several other shared inboxes. It is maddening to get so many notifications. What can I do???? Microsoft, can't you help and add back this VERY basic functionality?

    Hi Hannah Owen

I understand how frustrating this can be, especially when you need to access and monitor several shared inboxes and are receiving a large number of unwanted notifications.

Based on my research, I could not find a current option in Outlook for Mac to disable notifications for individual shared mailboxes while keeping notifications enabled for your personal mailbox. However, I found a workaround that was previously suggested for this scenario.

At the moment, my test environment is also experiencing an issue, so I have not been able to verify this workaround myself. If possible, you could try the following steps in your environment first to see whether they work for you. Once I am able to test it in my environment, I will also update you with my test results:

1.Make sure you have Full Access permission to the shared mailbox. If needed, your administrator can grant this permission.

2.Sign in to Outlook on the web (OWA).

3.Select your profile picture and choose Open another mailbox.

4.Enter the shared mailbox address and open it.

5.In the shared mailbox, go to Settings > General > Notifications.

6.Turn off Notifications in Outlook for that shared mailbox.

Then check Outlook for Mac to see whether you still receive notifications from that shared mailbox.

If this is affecting your workflow, you may consider submitting feedback via Ideas · Community so the product team can review this experience.

If you try the workaround, please feel free to share your results here. Your feedback may also help other users who are experiencing the same issue.
