How to gain access to Outlook account on Android App

I CANNOT get into ANY of my outlook accounts on the android app. (I have tried using the email I want to log into as well as another older account that I still have access to. Both got the same result. One is a gmail account and the one i want to get on outlook is a .edu account.)

I have attempted uninstalling, reinstalling, clearing cache, restarting my device so many times. I will go to add an account, type in the email, a loading screen pops up, appears to re-open, then the page goes completely white and doesn't change for hours if i let it just run.

This only occurs in my Android app. I am able to open the email I want on my PC and laptop with no issue.

I have tried to log in with the QR code but cannot find the QR code to do so in my PC app at all.

    Hi @Brooke

Based on your description, this appears more likely to be a device-side issue rather than an Outlook account issue. Since the issue occurs with multiple accounts (both your Gmail and school account), you can successfully access the same accounts from your PC and laptop, and Outlook reaches the sign-in process but then becomes stuck on a blank white screen.

To troubleshoot it, you could try to follow these steps:

Ensure that your Android OS and Outlook app are fully up to date.

Temporarily disable any VPN, ad-blocking applications, private DNS, or any mobile security software, then test again.

Try switching between Wi‑Fi and mobile data to see if the behavior changes.

To ensure I fully understand your situation and provide the most effective assistance, I’ll need a few additional details, such as:

Did this behavior start unexpectedly, and have there been any recent changes to the device, such as Android updates, app updates, or security settings changes?

Have you ever been able to sign in to Outlook successfully on this Android device before, or has the issue occurred since the first attempt?

    Any update would be appreciated.

Since the accounts open normally on PC and laptop, the issue is likely with the Android sign-in flow in the app rather than the accounts themselves.

    Try this order:

    1. Update the Android sign-in components
      • Open Google Play Store.
      • Update Microsoft Outlook to the latest version.
      • Also update Android System WebView and Google Chrome.
      • Restart the phone after updating.
      • If recurring password prompts or sign-in problems started recently, installing the latest Outlook version can resolve issues caused by updated security standards.
    2. Check whether the account itself can still sign in
      • For a Microsoft personal account, use the Microsoft sign-in helper tool: Start.
      • For a work or school account, use Reset password if self-service password reset is allowed; otherwise contact the IT admin.
      • For the Gmail account added to Outlook, sign-in issues must be handled by that email provider.
    3. If Outlook for Android still shows a white screen, try the Android mail app instead
      • In the Gmail app, go to Settings > Add account.
      • Choose Outlook, Hotmail, and Live for Outlook.com accounts, or use manual setup for Exchange-based accounts.
      • For manual setup in Gmail: Settings > Add account > Other > enter the full email address > Manual Setup > Exchange.
      • Use these server settings if needed:
        • Outlook.com accounts: eas.outlook.com
        • Microsoft 365 work or school accounts: outlook.office365.com
        • Port: 443 or 993
        • Security type: SSL/TLS
        • SMTP for Outlook.com: smtp-mail.outlook.com
        • SMTP for Microsoft 365 business: smtp.office365.com
        • SMTP port: 587 with TLS
      • If prompted to choose an account type, do not use IMAP if Exchange is available. Adding the account as IMAP can prevent proper calendar and contacts sync.
    4. If the .edu account is a delegated or shared mailbox
      • In Outlook mobile, open the sidebar and tap Add Account > Add Shared mailbox.
      • Enter the mailbox alias that was granted access.
    5. If the app is being blocked by Android background restrictions
      • Turn off power-saving mode.
      • Disable power optimization for Authenticator or Company Portal if those apps are used by the school account.
      • Open Authenticator/Company Portal before opening Outlook.
      • On some Huawei devices, the setting is in Phone Manager > Auto-launch > Secondary launch management > enable Authenticator/Company Portal.

About the QR code: no QR-code setup path for adding Outlook accounts on Android is described in the available Outlook mobile setup guidance. The supported setup flow is to add the account from the Outlook app or Android mail app using the email address and sign-in prompt.

If the white screen continues after updating Outlook, Android System WebView, and Chrome, the most practical workaround is to add the account in the Gmail app or the built-in Android mail app instead of Outlook for Android.
