Using the New Outlook for Mac for personal email and calendar
On Mac, start with Outlook itself and Microsoft AutoUpdate:
- Open Outlook.
- In the menu bar, select Help > Check for Updates.
- When Microsoft AutoUpdate opens, select Update or Update All.
- After the update finishes, restart Outlook.
If Outlook still shows a check error:
- Close all Office apps.
- Open Microsoft AutoUpdate directly from Finder > Applications > Microsoft AutoUpdate.
- If it is not there, check
/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0/.
- If it is not there, check
- Review the available updates, then select Update next to Outlook or Update All.
- After updates complete, launch Outlook again and test.
If the Mac is on an older macOS version, Office 2024 may not update correctly. For macOS devices that cannot take the required updates, the documented path is to use a supported device or upgrade the device/OS. A related known issue also affected Microsoft 365 for Mac users in the Beta channel where apps stopped being offered updates at versions 16.78 or 16.79; the fix was to install Outlook for Mac 16.79.23101801 or later.
If Office 2024 is installed but the app still appears as an earlier version in the app backstage, install the latest Office updates first. If that does not resolve it, Microsoft documents deleting %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Office\Licenses\5 and then reopening an Office app to sign in again. This step is for the documented Office 2024 version-display issue.
