Accessing Microsoft Teams for Education using school or organizational credentials
This is usually a sign-in loop: the school account is configured to use Microsoft Authenticator, but the app is asking for a code before the account is fully usable on that device.
Try these steps in order:
- Check whether the account already appears in Microsoft Authenticator.
- If the school account is already listed, open that account entry and look for the one-time password code.
- That code refreshes every 30 seconds, so if the timer is almost finished, wait for the next code and enter it.
- On the sign-in screen, choose an alternate method if it is offered.
- Look for options such as Sign in another way, Use a different way to sign in, or I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now.
- If the school configured other methods, use SMS, phone call, or email instead.
- If the device was changed or Authenticator was restored from backup:
- In Authenticator, if the account shows Sign in to restore your account, tap Sign in for that account.
- Enter the password and complete the extra verification requested.
- For work or school accounts, only the account name is restored, so signing in again is required before it can be used.
- If no other sign-in method is available, contact the school IT help desk.
- Ask them to clear or reset the MFA methods for the school account and require MFA re-registration.
- After they do that, the next sign-in should prompt setup of Authenticator again from the beginning.
Important:
- Do not share Authenticator codes with anyone over text or phone. Real support staff should not ask for the code.
- If the phone was lost or stolen, the organization help desk should clear the settings.
