Good morning

I have been using an e-mail account created with Fastweb for several years but I would like to change provider (perhaps using Outlook.com), while maintaining the same email address. Is it possible?

And if so, what would be the steps to follow?

If have a custom domain name you can switch to a new provider. You can also do mail forwarding as suggested, but then you have two providers.

If the email address is tied to the current provider, keeping that exact address depends on whether the provider continues to host the mailbox after the provider change. In Outlook, the existing address can be added and used only as long as the current provider’s mail servers still allow that account to send and receive mail.

    What can be done:

    1. Check whether Fastweb will keep the mailbox active after the provider change.
      • If the mailbox stays active, the account can be added to Outlook.
      • If the mailbox is closed when the provider changes, that address can no longer send or receive mail through Outlook.
    2. Gather the current mailbox settings from the provider.
      • Incoming mail server: IMAP or POP
      • Outgoing mail server: SMTP
      • Port numbers and SSL/TLS settings
    3. Add the account to Outlook.
      • In Outlook, go to File > Add Account.
      • Enter the existing email address.
      • If automatic setup fails, choose IMAP or POP manually and enter the provider’s server details.
    4. If settings need to be edited later in Outlook for Windows:
      • Open Outlook and select File.
      • Under Account Information, select the account.
      • Select Account Settings.
      • Use Server Settings to update password, server name, port, or authentication settings.
      • Select Next > Done.
    5. Back up existing mail before changing provider.
      • If access to the old mailbox ends, messages may be lost unless they are exported or migrated first.

About moving to Outlook.com while keeping the same address:

    • The provided information does not show a way to transfer a provider-owned address into Outlook.com as the same Outlook.com address.
    • Outlook.com supports aliases, but provider-owned addresses remain dependent on the original provider unless that provider still hosts the mailbox.

    A practical outcome is:

    • Possible: keep using the same address in Outlook if the current provider keeps the mailbox active and the account settings are available.
    • Not supported by the provided information: converting that provider-owned address into a native Outlook.com mailbox with the exact same address.
