There is no chat option in Teams, so I can't communicate and collaborate with classmates in real time. In the chat history, I can only see the gray text below that says "This chat is disabled". I don't know if it is hidden or if I don't have enough permissions. I would like to ask for a solution. Please provide specific steps.

    Dear @Davis Charlotte,

    I hope you’re having a good day.

    Thank you for your question.

Based on the message"This chat is disabled" and the fact that you're using Microsoft Teams for Education, this does not appear to be a hidden setting or a problem with the Teams app itself.

Microsoft's documentation explains that schools can disable private chat for students or apply restricted or supervised chat policies. When these policies are enabled, students may be unable to start chats, chat with other students, or use private messaging normally.

There have also been similar cases reported where students received messages such as "Administrator has disabled chat for this user" or "My chat is disabled", and the issue was ultimately traced to Teams policies configured by the school's IT administrator.

Before contacting your school, you may want to try:

    • Signing out of Teams and signing back in.
    • Testing Teams in a web browser.
    • Checking whether other classmates are experiencing the same issue.

However, if the message continues to say "This chat is disabled", the most likely explanation is that your account has been assigned a chat policy that restricts or disables chat functionality. In that case, only your school's IT administrator can review or change those settings.

I would recommend contacting your school's IT department or Teams administrator and asking them to verify whether chat has been disabled or restricted for student accounts.

If you’re unsure who your administrator is, this article may help: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin?

I hope this information helps point you in the right direction.

    Warm regards,
