How to create a new category in Outlook Contacts

I need to add new contacts to my email and identify them in a new category. I cannot find a way to do this. Please advise.

Hi Jim,

Thank you for reaching out. 

You can add new contacts and assign them to a category in Outlook on the web for business by following these steps: 

Add a New contact and assign a category: 

  • Sign in to Outlook on the web. 
  • Select the People icon from the left navigation pane. 
  • Click New Contact. 
  • Enter the contact's details. 
  • Select Add categories at the bottom of the contact form. 
  • Create a new category or select an existing one. 
  • Click Save.

Alternatively, add a category to an existing contact: 

  • Go to People. 
  • Select the contact you want to categorize. 
  • Click More options (...) or right-click the contact. 
  • Select Add category. 
  • Enter a new category name or choose an existing category.

Note: If these options do not match what you see, you may be using a different or older version of Outlook on the web. The available features and interface can vary depending on the Outlook version in use.
