In Dec 2025, microsoft tech support was assisting with the issue of not being able to sign in to my one drive. The tech support had to create a new user, but the new user does not have admin priveleges on this computer. This is my home computer, so I have just been dealing with it, but it is becoming a huge issue because I cannot do any admin duties. I have spoken to chat support on microsoft 365, but they were unable to assist. For some reason, when I try to submit a service request on 365 admin portal, it takes me straight back to the chat support. They instructed me to call and this is where it has led me.

    Hi Sharon Briggs,

Since this is your home computer, your original local Administrator account should still be available. Please try logging into that original account first.

Once you are signed in to the Administrator account, follow these steps to grant admin privileges to your new account:

    1. Go to Settings -> Accounts -> Other Users.
    2. Select your new account and click Change account type.
    3. Change it from Standard User to Administrator, then click OK.

Log back into your new account, and you should now have full admin rights.
