Product: Microsoft Outlook for Mac

Description of the issue: After updating Outlook for Mac [Version 16.110 (26061317)] on 18/6/2026, replying to any email no longer includes the original message in the reply window. Prior to the update, replies correctly contained the original email text below my response.

Steps to reproduce:

Open Outlook for Mac.

Select any received email.

Click Reply.

A new reply message opens.

The original email content is not included in the reply.

Expected behavior:

The original message should be included in the reply, as in previous Outlook versions and according to the configured reply settings.

Actual behavior:

The reply window contains only a blank composition area (or only my response), with none of the original email text included.

Additional information:

The problem started immediately after the latest Outlook update.

The issue occurs with all emails tested.

The problem did not exist before the update.

Restarting Outlook or the Laptop do not resolve the issue.

System information:

Outlook version: [Version 16.110 (26061317)]
macOS version: [Apple M3 Pro]
Legacy Outlook

Impact:

This issue significantly affects email workflows because replies no longer contain the context of the original correspondence.

This is an extremely frustrating bug in this last update, and I hope a fix is on the way. This is frankly quite disappointing that something major like this completely evaded the software testing process before it was being rolled out.

I had the same problem using Outlook 16.110 on a Mac. Original message threads disappeared when replying after auto update to 16.110.

I rolled back to 16.109 and disabled auto updates for the time being until MS resolve this.

How long does it take to do that - its been a few weeks now and still no news.....

In my case, I cannot deactivate the automatic update as my laptop and software are administered by my organisation. What should I do in this case? Should I ask them to deactivate all updates of Microsoft Outlook?

If your device managed by your company, please inform your IT admin about your situation.

If possible, you can ask them what solution they can do in this situation. because each company will have different policy, they can adjust a single device or entire a device depends on the situation.

Equally important to Reply is Forwarding. When forwarding a message , obviously we want to forward the message. But when the original message is not included, then it defeats the purpose of forwarding. Yes, this needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

Microsoft has never made a secret of the fact that they want you off of Legacy Outlook for Mac.

But the "replies blank" bug in Version 16.110 is just that. A bug. (You should see some of the whoppers they let slip thru for New Outlook for Windows)

Same here. I really don’t like the functionality of the “New” Outlook. It’s a bit like “New Coke” (for those old enough to remember that disaster). Please let us keep Legacy Outlook.

Nothing yet I'm afraid. It'll be probably easier to get the next upgrade by Microsoft. I wonder if this problem has been escalated. I cannot imagine it is too difficult to fix.

You may be able to keep using Legacy Outlook for Mac until at least 2029. Perhaps longer if you have a standalone version of the software and are willing to stay on an older Mac OS version and not receive any Microsoft Office Updates.

@Jayden-P Thanks for sharing the official article. It was interesting that it is suggested switching to New Outlook as the only remedy. I have tried that, and only one of my e-mail accounts transferred over to the "New Outlook". Reinstalling every account would be a real hassle. The roll back to 16.109 is a much better workaround that doesn’t affect my workflow.

The New Outlook does not support local rules.

And since it appears all support is leaving this October for my Outlook it appears I will have to delete Outlook entirely.

Dealing with the same things, so many hours trying to figure it out and finally realized it happened after I upgraded to 16.110 and I tried going back to 16.109 but I cant without uninstalling and losing everything in my Outlook.

Hi All, I may have found a quick hack. I don't know why it worked. I toggled to the updated version of Outlook (deselect "legacy outlook"), and then reverted back to the "legacy outlook". When I reverted back, the replies/forwards operated as they should. Give it a try?

I have been affected by the same. In my case I was using legacy Outlook, converting to the contemporary application (at least until a fix is in place) has helped in my situation.

How do I get to this update? When I select "Check for Updates" in Outlook, it is saying it is up to date and not showing this update.

Same here. 16.110.1 doesn't show up in my updates, either. Only 16.110. I guess we'll have to wait and keep using 16.109 in the meantime.

I was unable to find the automatic update. I went online and downloaded the release, installed it, and everything is working as it should, for now!

It may take some time for a new general release to be available to everyone. If you don't want to wait, you can try changing your Update Channel to "Current Channel {Preview)". See the Answer by "Jayden-P Jun 23, 2026" in this thread.

You can try updating to version 16.110.1 with Current Channel (Preview).

This sign indicates an official fix will be rolled out in near future.
