I used to be able to take a Teams message, click the ellipses, and add it as a task in the Team Planner AND select the bucket. I cannot do that now. What gives?

    Hi Mary,

According to Create a task from a Teams message | Microsoft Support, if you choose a plan name, the task will be added to the plan in the Planner app in Teams.

You can edit the task name, priority, due date, notes, progress, bucket, and assign the task from the window. You can also choose to post a reply in a chat conversation about the task so others can see it too.

However, I tested the scenario based on the behavior you described, and I was able to reproduce this behavior. The user interface appears just as you described, and there is no bucket section.

For now, to manage buckets with the current experience, first create the task from the Teams message, then open the associated plan in Planner (Tasks). From there, you can view the board grouped by buckets and move the task to the appropriate bucket by dragging and dropping it or create a new bucket and relocate the task as needed. This provides a workaround for organizing tasks into buckets when the bucket selection option is not available during task creation from the message.

At this time, there are no built-in settings or configurations available on your side that would affect this behavior. Since the issue appears to be a user interface regression, it will require further investigation by the backend engineering team.

Given the nature of the problem, the most effective next step is reaching out to your IT admin and ask them to use their admin credentials to submit a support request through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center on your behalf.

Microsoft also provides customer service phone numbers based on your region. Your IT admin can find the appropriate contact number here: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

This route ensures that a Microsoft support engineer can initiate a remote session to investigate backend configurations, run advanced diagnostic tools, and, if necessary, escalate the case to specialized teams with access to internal systems and logs. These backend resources are essential for resolving issues that go beyond what’s visible in the user interface.

As community moderators, we’re here to guide you, but due to privacy and security limitations, we don’t have access to the backend tools required for a full resolution. For this reason, contacting Microsoft Support via the Admin Center is the most secure and efficient way forward.

In case you do not know who is your IT admin, kindly refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

I hope this provides enough clarity and helps you stay inform with your current situation.

The bucket selection option when creating a task from a Teams message is no longer available in the message action UI.

Currently, when creating a task from a Teams message via More actions > Create Planner task, only basic fields can be edited in the popup: task name, priority, due date, and notes for Private Tasks, and task name, priority, due date, notes, progress, bucket, and assignment only when creating directly into a selected plan in the Planner app in Teams.

To manage buckets now, create the task from the message, then open the plan in Planner and adjust the bucket there:

    1. In Teams, open the Planner (Tasks) tab where the plan lives.
    2. On the Board, use Group by Bucket and drag the task into the desired bucket, or
    3. Use Add new bucket to create buckets and then move tasks between them.

If the task is created into Private Tasks, bucket selection is not available there; buckets are a plan-level concept in Planner boards, so bucket changes must be done in the plan itself.
