Resent upgrade 365 family to premium copilot does not recognize upgrade

I recently upgraded 365 family to 365 premium, however copilot does not recognize the upgrade as far as credit usages as it still says I've reached my weekly tasks limit set as a family subscription. Please explain how to update copilot to recognize the recent upgrade to premium with higher limits. Thank you!

Copilot usage limits are tied to the active Microsoft 365 subscription and may take some time to update after changing plans.

    Based on the documented behavior:

    1. Microsoft 365 Premium has higher AI limits than Family
      • Family: limited Actions and AI credits.
      • Premium: includes Agents, Actions, and “extensive usage beyond standard credit limits” for Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps and image features, plus higher Vision and Voice limits.
      • Limits and AI credits can vary by feature, entry point, and system conditions, and may change over time.
    2. Propagation delay after subscription change
      • When a new license or upgraded subscription is applied, it can take time to propagate across Microsoft 365 and Copilot services. During this period, Copilot may still enforce the old Family limits.
    3. Steps to help Copilot recognize the Premium upgrade Follow these steps on the account that owns the Premium subscription:
      1. Confirm the subscription and plan
      • Go to Services & subscriptions in the Microsoft account and verify that the plan now shows Microsoft 365 Premium (not Family).
      • From the same page, check AI credits and feature limits status.
      1. Refresh the license in Microsoft 365 apps
      • On Windows desktop apps (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook):
        1. Open any Microsoft 365 app.
        2. Go to File > Account.
        3. Select Update License.
        4. Close all Microsoft 365 apps and reopen them.
      • On Mac desktop apps:
        1. Open Word (or another Microsoft 365 app).
        2. Select Word > About Word > More Info….
        3. Select Refresh License.
        4. Close all Microsoft 365 apps and reopen them.
      1. Make sure the correct account is active
      • In each app, confirm that the primary account shown at the top/right is the one with the Premium subscription.
      • If both personal and work/school accounts are signed in, sign out the non‑Premium account or switch the primary account to the Premium one, as licensing conflicts can prevent Copilot from validating correctly.
      1. Refresh web sessions
      • In the browser, sign out of Microsoft 365, close the browser, then sign back in with the Premium subscription account and try Copilot again.
    4. If limits still show as Family after these steps
      • Because AI credits and feature limits are enforced on the service side, and the documentation notes that limits can vary and may change over time, any persistent mismatch after a plan upgrade needs direct support review.
      • Contact Microsoft account/billing support so they can check the subscription backend and Copilot entitlement for the Premium plan and correct the limits if needed.
