Some apps don't allow for personal email logins

I recently bought a Microsoft 365 personal subscription. I am able to log into the Word app but I get a message saying "we couldn't find a work or school account with that email address" when I try to log in to Excel or Powerpoint. Not sure why it's forcing me to use a work or school account when this is my personal laptop and not for business purposes. Also unsure why it works just fine with Word but not with Excel or Powerpoint. Please advise.

    Hello

Have you used a Microsoft 365 business subscription before, via an account assigned to you by work/school?

In Word or Excel, if you go to Files > Accounts, what does it say here for the subscription name?

The behavior occurs because the Excel and PowerPoint desktop apps are still tied to a work/school identity or cached credentials, while Word is already using the correct personal Microsoft 365 account. The apps are therefore looking for a work or school account instead of the personal subscription that was purchased.

To fix this on Windows, remove the old work/school association and cached credentials, then reinstall and sign in only with the personal Microsoft account that owns the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription:

    1. Confirm the subscription is correct
      • In a browser, go to the Subscriptions page at the Microsoft account portal (as described in the context) and sign in with the email used to buy Microsoft 365 Personal.
      • Verify that a Microsoft 365 Personal (or Family) subscription is listed and active. If only Microsoft 365 Basic appears, that plan does not include desktop apps and will not activate Excel/PowerPoint.
    2. Disconnect any work or school account from Windows
      • Open Settings → Accounts → Access work or school (briefcase icon).
      • If any work or school account is listed, select it and choose Disconnect.
    3. Remove cached work/school credentials
      • Open Control Panel → Credential Manager → Windows Credentials.
      • Remove any entries that reference a work or school organization or old work email.
    4. Clear Office sign-in and identity caches
      • Press Windows + R and, one by one, open these folders and delete everything inside each:
        • %LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin_cw5n1h2txyewy
        • %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\OneAuth
        • %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\TokenBroker
        • %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\IdentityCache
      • If a subfolder cannot be deleted, open it and delete its contents.
      • Restart the computer.
    5. Reinstall Microsoft 365 and sign in with the personal account only
      • Uninstall Microsoft 365 from Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
      • Go to microsoft365.com in a browser and sign in with the same personal Microsoft account that has the active Personal/Family subscription.
      • Select Apps, then Install apps to download the installer.
      • Run the installer, then open Excel or PowerPoint.
      • When prompted to sign in, use the personal Microsoft account (not any work or school account).

After these steps, Excel and PowerPoint should recognize the personal Microsoft 365 Personal subscription and stop asking for a work or school account.
